One year of teacher Training School, then Normal School, BS, MS, Administration Certification and subsequent classwork, publications, school administration, professional leadership at state and federal levels and professorships at several universities.
Carl, driven by a creed that stated, "Man never stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child" he indeed became the professor!
No matter what award or position he achieved or professional activity he participated in, he never lost his love for the classroom. He believed each child had gifts and talents and with the proper methods and process the genius in them would come to the top.
With this in mind he developed a school-wide system called "Continous Progress" that allowed students to grow at differing rates through their classroom experience. One might take 7 months to complete a 3rd grade curriculum while another 5 months. A series of one room schools in consolidated buildings.
At the core of this initiative is the demand for a team of committed professionals collaborating meet the needs of a multitude of students. Carl dedicated his life to training willing professionals to employ this process that created a "cycle of appreciation." The longitudinal studies have proven the impact in countless communities.
In today's world we hear daily of the challenges created by the "cycle of depreciation" and its dysfunctional family unit and their drop outs created by the assembly line all on the same page industrial model systems of today. Continuos Progress, eliminates much of the frustration of failure by building an "I can do it" mindset in the formative years of a child that continues to serve the student going forward thoughout adulthood.
Because learning is a life time event these same principles can again be used today at any age or developmental level. The Hope Collection is facilitating this process online at and locally through its Resource and Research Center (RRC) and will duplicate through "Hope's Hubs".
